Beadphoria has once again been beading big! We are honored to be chosen by Resurrection Hospital and Rainbow Hospice to be part of a public art display in the city of Park Ridge, IL. Proceeds will benefit Rainbow Hospice’s Ark Unit for Inpatient Hospice care. Going along with the theme of the Ark, 50 animals will be on display around various parks in Park Ridge. We were given 2 butterflies by Resurrection Hospital to decorate. The only request was that one be a Monarch butterfly, the symbol of the nun’s of Resurrection.
First, we gathered as many black and orange beads that we could find. Pencil sketches were made on the surface of the statue so proper bead placement could be made. Next step was to find an adhesive to stick the beads in place. After several tries, Liquid Nails for Small Projects worked the best and had the least amount of odor.
Some unseasonably cold weather kept us from starting right away, but once the temperatures warmed up, we went all out! Several people came over to help including Ashley Peszek, Bernadette Neri, Carla Casia, Celene Morales, Carol Einfaldt, Janice Meintzer, and Kevin Wilson. With great effort and lots of glue, we were able to meet the May 21 deadline for the Monarch to be complete.
The other butterfly will be a Blue Morpho butterfly that is currently being worked on. We will post pictures when it is finished.
Please let us know in the comments what you think of our Beaded Butterfly!
