Bead Soup Blog Hop, DIY Jewelry, Suzann Sladcik Wilson

By Suzann Sladcik Wilson

It’s finally here! I can finally serve up my delectable bead soup creation to you all. This time, my creativity boiled over and I ended up making a three course meal!

Delicious bead soup mix from Sandi at Do Be Do Bead Do.

Here is a picture of the beads that Sandi sent me for the challenge. Sandi is an extremely talented polymer clay artist. The five brown, black, and orange colored beads in the center of the picture were created by her.

And this is the finished necklace, bracelet, and ring that I made! As you can see, my soup definitely boiled over. I decided to call the collection “Free Spirit”. The colors were all so warm and natural, the name seemed to reflect that. Let me know in the comment what is your favorite of the Trio.

Make sure you stop by Sandi’s blog so you can see what she made with my soup. You can also click here for a list of all the participants, or check them out below.

Enjoy all the beautiful bead soup!

Today is the big reveal day for Lori Anderson’s Bead Soup Blog Hop. As many of you know from my earlier post, the amazingly talented Margot Potter is my swap partner. She was so generous in sending me some of my most beloved beads, Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls. The clasp/focal is an absolute stunner from ClaspGarten.

Sparkling bead soup from my partner Margot Potter just waiting to be mixed.

And here is the finished piece…..

A Night at the Opera Choker Necklace by Suzann Sladcik Wilson

I had several ideas before this one came to be. I thought about making something longer, but the beads seemed to always came back to the design with the choker. I am really excited about how it came out. The next black tie event that I attend, you can bet that this necklace will be worn with a little black dress!

Thank you for stopping by to see my creation. Make sure you stop by Margot Potter’s Blog and see what she made with her soup. Click here to see the list of other bloggers participating in hop. Enjoy all of the delicious designs the Bead Soup blog hop has to offer!

Hello to all my bead friends! Today I present to you a picture of the glittering bead soup that was sent to me by the amazing Margot Potter. This is my fourth time participating in the Bead Soup Blog Hop run by Lori Anderson, and I have to say that this is the most dazzling soup yet!

Click the photo above to see the list of over 350 bead bloggers that are part of the Bead Soup Swap.

If you are not familiar with the Bead Soup Bead Swap, you’ll be happy you checked it out. This time we have over 350 (yes, you read that right!) participants. The wide range of talent not only here in the US, but world wide is staggering. You will find bead bloggers that range from those that have only been making jewelry a few months to master bead artisans. Each one has their own creative spark that will have you looking at beading through a fresh pair of eyes.

I am still contemplating what I am going to with my soup. Two ideas are currently competing for my design attention. You will have to come back on Sept. 17 when all the designs are relieved to see which one won out.

Speaking of winners…I have decided to award TWO winners of my upcoming book Simple Beginnings: Beading since I had people post both here and on Creating the Hive. The random winner from this blog is Stacy S. and the random winner from Creating The Hive is Pine Ridge Treasures. Congratulations, ladies! Please e-mail me at Suzann@Beadphoria.com with your address and I will make sure to send you your signed copies of Simple Beginnings: Beading as soon as they are available.

If you have any questions about beading, or jewelry business marketing tips, please feel free to contact me at 224-305-3321 or Suzann@Beadphoria.com. Always happy to share the joy of beading with you, Suzann Sladcik Wilson of Beadphoria.com and BeadphoriaBoutique.com.

Registration Opens At Noon January 11, 2010

Snow is falling across the country today, but we have something that will have you thinking about summer. Registration for the 2011 Bead and Button Show that takes place June 4-12 opens today at Noon central time. This year the number of classes to choose from utterly overwhelming! Fear not! Beadphoria is here to help you with some suggestions when looking at classes.

– Stretch Your Creativity Bead and Button does an excellent job of offering a vast array of techniques to jewelry makers. Almost any technique you might have wanted to try is here. With excellent instructors who are experts in their fields, why not try a class in a new area? Seed beaders could try chainmaille or a Polymer clay artist could try their hand at making glass beads . Not only could you walk away with a new technique, but you could also have a new perspective on your jewelry designs.

Katie Hacker, Host of Bead, Baubles, and Jewels, will be teaching several classes at the 2011 Bead & Button Show.

– Learn From Someone You Admire The caliber of instructors is amazing! Names of people that you have seen on books, television, and blogs come here to share their skills with you in person. People such as Katie Hacker, the host of Bead, Baubles, and Jewels on PBS, Diane Fitzgerald, world renowned author of numerous books and articles on beadweaving, Thomas Mann, best known for his Techno.Romantic Jewelry Objects™ and sculptural vision of jewelry design, and Anne E. Mitchell, the 2009 winner of the 2009 Excellence in Bead Artistry Award.

– Pace Yourself Take it from someone who signed up for way to many classes the first year, keep your schedule at an even pace. There is a lot of new information to take in. After that first show, I think I slept a week! Also, don’t forget to allow yourself time to go shopping in the Bead and Jewelry Market Place. You will probably need more than one trip in the Market Place to take it all in. There is a reason it is the Biggest Consumer Bead Show in the World!

Watch top bead artisans create before your eyes at the Lampworking Madness event.

– Special Events Consider registering to attend some of the special events offered. At the Meet The Teachers Reception on June 8, not only can you meet the instructors in person, but often times purchase kits from them. Lampworking Madness June 10, is a rare opportunity to see celebrity flameworkers craft works of art in the shape of glass beads. Those beads are then auctioned off at the Bead Social and Auction Night June 11, to raise funds to fight breast cancer.

Tell us what classes you plan on taking this year. We would love to hear from you!

If you have any questions about beading, or about the 2011 Bead and Button Show, please feel free to contact me at 224-305-3321 or Suzann@Beadphoria.com. Always happy to share the joy of beading with you, Suzann Sladcik Wilson of Beadphoria.com and BeadphoriaBoutique.com.

Today is Tuesday, so it is time for another installment of Tips and Tools! Here at Beadphoria, we have a hot tip for you! There is another one of Lori Anderson’s Bead Soup Blog Parties in the works!

The first Bead Soup necklace "Caramel Swirl" by Suzann Sladcik Wilson

Beadphoria has been involved in the first two Bead Soup Blog Parties and had a blast! Want to join in the fun? First, you need to have a blog. Second, hop on over to Lori Anderson’s blog Pretty Things and let her know you want to join. Next, put a widget on your blog to let everyone know you are part of the party, (see, mine is over there on the right).  Lori will then let you know who your Party Partner is and a list of all of the blogs participating in the swap.

Bead Soup #2 Necklace "Reflections of Lorelei" by Suzann Sladcik Wilson

This is where the fun begins! You send your partner a focal, some coordinating spacers or beads, and a special clasp (no lobster claws, please!). When you receive you beads from your partner, post a picture of them on your blog. On Party Day is when you reveal on your blog  the beautiful creation you have made with the beads that were sent to you. You also get to see what everyone else has done by stopping by their blogs.

So grab your invite and join the party!

Also, don’t forget to visit my friend Theresa Cifali today. She has a great tool to share with you that if you do paper arts, you don’t want to miss!

If you have any questions about beading, or the Bead Soup Blog Party, please feel free to contact me at 224-305-3321 or Suzann@Beadphoria.com. Always happy to share the joy of beading with you, Suzann Sladcik Wilson of Beadphoria.com and BeadphoriaBoutique.com

Bead Soup Necklace "Reflections of Lorelei" by Suzann Sladcik Wilson

I had hoped to get two necklaces done for today’s bead soup reveal, but a trip to the ER on Wednesday night after smashing my left index finger in a cabinet changed all that. Luckily it is only a severe bruise and required a brace for a few days.

I was able to finish this necklace, “Reflections of Lorelei”. The beads my bead soup partner Melissa Rappaport sent are totally out of my box. After laying them out they seemed just flow together. What they reminded me of is what one of my favorite designers Lorelei Hill Eurto would use. I have long admired her work and her ability to mix different stones and metals together. Her wire wrapping is also amazing. She really was my muse for this piece.

Thank you, Lori Anderson for once again stretching my creativity and coordinating the second serving of  bead soup! Click on her name to be taken to Bead Soup Central!

If you have any questions about beading, or the second serving of bead soup, please feel free to contact me at 224-305-3321 or Suzann@Beadphoria.com. Always happy to share the joy of beading with you, Suzann Sladcik Wilson of Beadphoria.com.

Title: Beadmaille

Author: Cindy Thomas Pankopf

ISBN: 978-1-60059-495-3

Pages: 127

Price: $21.95

Level: Adv. Beginner – Expert

Beadphoria received a package from Lark Books recently. The book that laid inside was something so innovative and stunning, we were all in awe. The picture on the cover Beadmaille is of a necklace draws you in and immediately you want to pick up the book and find out “how did they do that!”

Beadmaille begins with an extensive The Basics sections that covers information on bead weaving and chainmail, including elementary bead weaving stitches and how to make your own jump rings. This section alone would be valuable to any jewelry maker.

The 25 projects in Beadmaille are each totally unique. The illustrations and instructions are clear and easy to follow.

One of Beadphoria’s beginning bead weaving students was particularly struck by the Caterpillar bracelet. It is a beautiful design with green beads and copper rings intertwined. Whereas for me, the mixture of stringing and beadmaille really caught my eye in the Celtic Lace necklace.

If you are looking to expand your bead weaving, chainmail skills, or looking to try something new, this is a great book for you!

Special Note: Author Cindy Thomas Pankopf will be offering kits for some of her projects on her website.

If you have any questions about beading, or beading and jewelry making books, please feel free to contact me at 224-305-3321 or Suzann@Beadphoria.com. Always happy to share the joy of beading with you, Suzann Sladcik Wilson of Beadphoria.com.

Beadphoria is overjoyed that we are 8 fans away from 200 fans on Facebook! When we hit that magic number of 200, we will be randomly giving away a Beadphoria prize pack to one lucky Beadphoria fan! It will contain items from some our favorite bead artists such as Melanie Brooks, Jangles, and a few other surprises, too!  Not a fan yet? Come join us by clicking here or on the link on the right hand side of this blog.

If you have any questions about beading, or being a Beadphoria Facebook Fan, please feel free to contact me at 224-305-3321 or Suzann@Beadphoria.com. Always happy to share the joy of beading with you, Suzann Sladcik Wilson of Beadphoria.com.
