Paper beads are a fun way to go green with your beading!

By Suzann Sladcik Wilson

Since today is Earth Day, we at Beadphoria wanted to share with you some of the ways that you can bead green.

Get Thrifty! – Looking for some new beads to work with? Try your local thrift store! Often times you can pick up vintage beads at an amazing price.

All in the Family – Ask family members if they have any old jewelry you could re-purpose. You might be surprised what Aunt Mable has in the bottom of her jewelry box.

Recycle your wire! – Did you know that Soft Flex has a recycling program for their spools and wire? Click here to find out more.

“Green” SilverEurotool offers silver wire and sheet that is from 100% reclaimed silver. It is also made here in the USA!

Go Retro! – Remember making paper beads out of old magazines and newspapers as a kid? Check out this video on YouTube if you need a refresher.

Beyond Beads – Buttons, game pieces, and bottle caps can all be used in jewelry making. You can use the items as is or give them a new look by adding decorative paper and sealing it on with Mod Podge.

What do you do to bead green? We would love to hear from you in the comments below!
